Figuring Out Bach Flower Remedies
June 4th, 2007Bach flower remedies are flower essences developed by Dr. Edward Bach. They are used in alternative medicine practices to deal with emotional and spiritual conditions.
The remedies are flower material mixed with water and brandy. The flowers are extremely diluted so they do not have any taste or scent of the flower used to make them.
Bach flower remedies are used either alone or in combination with other treatments. They are used on pets, animals and humans. They are taken orally and usually prescribed by a naturopath. However, a person can make their own if they understand what they need to do and what flowers to use.
The most well know Bach flower remedy is the Rescue Remedy which uses Rock rose, impatiens, clematis, star of Bethlehem and cherry plus. It treats stress, anxiety and panic attacks. This remedy can also be made into a cream to treat skin conditions.
Research into the effectiveness of each remedy consists of reports made about each use. However, this type of report may not be completely reliable due to personal bias on the part of patients.
The method of gathering the flower essence is done by collecting flowers and then steeping them in water.
Bach flower remedies are not homeopathic in nature because they contain only non-toxic substances. They are based on the idea that they contain positive energy which can turn negative energy away.
There are 38 Bach flower remedies. These remedies are given for a range of conditions. There are remedies for the fear of the unknown, the inability to say no, hatred, envy, lack of confidence and depression, to name just a few. The flowers used range from crab apple to mustard to pine to water violet.
Besides the 39 recognize Bach flower remedies created by Dr. Bach himself, others around the world have made their own remedies. They are all based upon the original concepts.
Bach flower remedies may not be proven to work through science, but as with any alternative health measure, that usually bears no significance to people who have used them. There are many people who strongly back Bach flower remedies and will be more than happy to say they work and have worked for them.
